I remember when I played WEBKINZ and would forget tend the garden only to go on and everything was all dried up. But actually the pumpkins looked pretty cool all dried up. Was it a forebearer of Animal Crossing I wonder?

Iirc the original Animal Crossing came out about 2000
Japan only, but it got a remake that polished some things up and then Nintendo US people got them to bring it over with removal of cultural influences, and that became so popular they ported that version back over so for Japan the original game has three versions
