I like to believe we're all very capable but it's like a team of all healers in a first person shooter game, healing each other

I thought it was broken too but it turns out it just takes a while to load after clicking once! If I click multiple times it'll say i'm tired and need more HP even if I have some left. I guess the trick is to just be patient~ Though I still get points regardless if I clicked too many times or not!

It seems it does restore the entire bar to max! I gained 26 HP today

That explains the points imbalance, gotta grind harder!!
