Backslash in Posts

This is only a minor thing, but I have this really weird issue with the backslash.
When I type

\o

when making a post, the forum will sometimes interpret the backslash as a special character and in the final post it will just print an o, and sometimes it won't, and print the whole \o. I am not sure if it depends on the forum or whatnot, but it would be cool if it would behave consistently and either always treat it as a special character or never.
