For whatever reason I am not good at the spelling bees game, I think it is the timer. If I had time to look for words at my own pace I would be ok but by the time I type in the word & go to submit it changes,

I've found the trick to it is to ignore the red ones unless you really need the letter. Those are always only worth one point. The values are randomly determined and go down every time the timer does, but only the ones you click and the red ones disappear. Prioritizing the two-digit worth ones is the way to go, and making sure you have the right ratio of vowels and consonants.

True, I usually run out of vowels towards the end & am stuck.

I've done that so many times... But it's always good to remember that there's no extra bonus for long words. Doing a lot of short words quickly will usually be best, but that's also how you run out of vowels.... I restart a lot! xD
