even if you can find cheaper air fare the hotels are outrageous. One place by us used to charge $150/night WHEN they were new...now 5 or more years later they charge $4-500/night, for the same rooms that aren't new anymore!! And they have NO air conditioning! One place is used to be $70/night and they did some renovations and now they charge a minimum $200/night and it is an old place. Local discounts are only 10-15% so that isn't much of a savings. All because they are "walking distance to the beach".

That might make a good research paper actually.

The thing is, you know they can charge a lot less...but people pay the higher price so why should they? Good business management I guess but not helpful for locals who want to have family come visit and have no extra room to put them up.

The other thing that is happening is that long term rentals are switching to vacation rentals because people will get more for one week vacation rentals then what they get for people renting per month. For the owner that makes more sense but for those trying to find a place to rent it is outrageous. Probably why renting a room in a house is becoming more prevalent. Even studio apartments (which are basically one room and a bathroom) are priced very high.

Yeah, a one bedroom apartment here was priced at $600 a month I think. Idk, but that seems a bit too much for something so small like that. It's one bedroom, on bathroom, a kitchen and living room. Nothing special really so that's way too much to be paying for that.

OMG, here that is SOOOOOO cheap!! You pay AT LEAST that here, just for a bedroom in a house where you have to share the kitchen, bathroom etc. Most one bedroom apartments are closer to $1000 or more. If you can find a house to rent for $1500/month here then you are extremely lucky. A person can't afford to live on their own it seems without half their paycheck going to rent alone.

Just find some good room mates! Save your money and it could happen. Depending on where you live in the country most minimum wages are pretty close but living expenses can be a lot cheaper. In California a shack is a quarter million but you move to another state and you could get a huge house for that same price.

Can you intern anywhere and build up experience and possibly a potential job when you are done college?

Man I haven't been here in forever. I blame finals. Thankfully the semester is over so I should be more active here...maybe. Unless it's slow around here then I'll probably stay away...idk.

Uhh, yeah I could intern somewhere after college. Only if they're accepting though.

I did try that doughnut one. That was fun. Although my eyes burned after a while. The pink and purple doughnuts look similar almost. It's hard to tell them apart.
