Would it be correct that ren'py and game maker projects can only be played on their servers (e.g. not able to be hosted on another server without a lot of trouble--as in backbone/interpreter required)?

The interactive comic/story books are kinda cool, but I don't think of them so much as games. The coding skills are the same (subset), but I find their level of interaction so minimal it really takes a super-engaging story and art to keep me clicking. (So, so, hard to create!)

Have you done any animations (other than programmatically)?

Sorry so many questions! I'm just fascinated by it all. :)

both ren'py and game maker compile games into programs that can be played anywhere, actually, so they can be hosted anywhere!

and yeah, that's fair -- they're not for everyone. i still like making them, even so; but it is more fun when i can put a bit more gameplay in them instead.

and i've been interested in animation, but i haven't done much of it. just little things like the character sprites in a couple of my games, though i'm planning to try a bit more for my current project.

and it's no problem! ask as much as you like. i love talking about all this stuff.

Sounds so cool ... amazing how much easier it is to create your own with all the new technology & programming made accessible... but I think you still need a creative streak to design them!

I give you credit for all your accomplishments!
