Avatars: I am confused

you have to buy stuff from the stores. the store with the red S and S symbol has all of the body and base things

You have to buy bases/items/etc... at the shops: http://windlynonline.com/cgi-bin/forums/shop.php?type=3 There isn't a new user avatar setup at the moment so you have to buy everything, but it's relatively easy to earn money on here.
After buying items, you can click on Avatar to go to your inventory/closet to start your character customization.

I'm not sure if its something with me or the site, but I'm unable to get an avatar base or equip any items I've purchased.

Did you buy a base from Shears and Scapels? Aka the shop furthest to the left?

So I went to the edit avatar thing, no items anywhere I could see, not even bases.

Not even the item I got a message about getting.

On Windlyn you need to buy your base first before you can equip anything. It's only 5 feathers.

Right now since we're still in Alpha mode, there's a few things we haven't implemented yet. One of which being we don't have a starter base and items for people to equip immediately upon joining-

However you can head over to the shops and buy things to make an avatar fairly quickly in the meantime! Hope this helps!

One of the downsides of joining an alpha site is that you don't get all of it right away
Hence why you start off with feathers, so you can buy them. They're cheap, though

Right now we're still in Alpha so there's lots of things we haven't had a chance to implement yet- we're very busy. One of those things being that we don't have starter bases and items right now.

For now you can head over to the shops and buy them. We made everything cheap enough that you can make an avatar for yourself fairly quickly. Hope this helps!

Which is what plenty of people would do when they find out they get nothing to start with, less than any other website I've been on actually (I can't even think of one where you had to buy a base XD)

I'll be looking to see how much they cost before I decide either way.

Well, we made them 5 feathers per base, and then gave users 200 feathers for starting, I think that's more than fair.

If you choose not to come back, I mean, we can't stop you! We'd be sorry to see you go, but we're in Alpha- this site isn't even done yet. So if you'd prefer to come back when it is or never again, that's also okay.

Sapherna, Caedon, and a few other avatar sites I have been on make you buy the base besides this one so it's not new tbh.
