New Years Resolutions - Yey or Nay?

Postby Daemion » Wed Dec 30, 2015 1:43 pm

I always have tons of friends that make these long lists, or their pintrest starts blowing up this time of year about all the things they want to do.

Normally the most common is something to do with health and fitness (Weightloss or gain) and then the others are like.. financial.

Am I the only weird one that is like "I resolve to keep negative people out of my life" or like... 'I will only have up to 5 cups of coffee a day" type things.

What about you?

What is something you want to resolve to do, that is 100% non failing?

Right?

I think last year it was to quit smoking. Totally didn't help. Made me smoke more actually.

well, you really have to resolve to whole heartily commit to something or it won't work, so generally I don't make resolutions unless I make smaller attainable goals - like watch my calories for 3 weeks ( instead of go on a diet and lose 10 pounds which never works for me).

This was my post from this time last year!

"1. Be more organized in my classroom.
2. Get up in time to actually look like a decent human being instead of something that crawled out of the crawlspace under my shed.
3. Keep up with my laundry instead of doing it when I run out of underwear. (yes, ryvvi you aren't the only one. XD)"

I did.... #1. I successfully implemented and stuck to a resolution!
the other 2... not so much.

This year-
I have one goal. To use a whole tube of lip balm/chapstick/lip something.

If you are talking to me, please ping or quote me. I get distracted and lose track of what I'm doing easily.

Except for the fact that the webcomic's been in development hell for over a year and I'm a super procrastinator so the fact that I have the waist part of the skirt done is a miracle
And getting the pipe cleaners on is gonna be hell, as a muuuuuch smaller Christmas gift proved to me x.x

I agree with Lemon on setting smaller attainable goals. You can want to lose 10lbs but your initial goals should be something easy to work yourself up to that bigger goal. If you end up not losing 10lbs at the end of the year but you did change your habits by are exercising and eating better then you have still achieved something.

My goals are to:
1) Exercise more. Something easy and light. Really it's about getting up from my computer and getting my body moving. Going to start with 2x a day then 3x. If I can do that then I'd set a number for how long to exercise a day.

2)Work on webcomic more. I did make progress last year but I've been taking long breaks on working on it. Aiming for no month-long gaps unless I'm really not feeling well enough.

Haha the first week of January always has an influx of "dedicated new gym members" but the gym is deserted by week 2.

Here goes:

1. Actually practice my guitar.

2. Stay off the grappa (or at least have a bit less of it)

As I get older I'm beginning to realize how much I need to tighten up since I left college and officially became a working adult :strain: But yes I'm usually terrible at making these long elaborate resolutions and sticking by them lol Have to start small
My non-failing (lol) goals this year are:
1. Eat out less, once a week or every 2 weeks
2. Read more books!
3. Get up every morning and make a breakfast smoothie
4. Go to bed earlier aka turning off all of my devices at a certain time and getting my rump in the bed. Goal to be in bed by 10:30 for a full nights rest!
5. Spend 5 minutes every morning meditating/praying etc
6. Stretch for 10 minutes at some point during the day (I am SO inflexible its not even funny D:)

I dislike new years resolutions. I feel like if you're going to do something why wait for a new year? Do it now, no time like the present. I don't bother making new years resolutions as you can probably tell. lol
