Stories from a 5th grade teacher~

Postby Mousy » Wed Dec 03, 2014 5:58 pm

My students do/say weird things. All the time.
I figure I should make a post to document all the strange happenings of my day to day life.
And you guys can come laugh at my pain if you'd like. And share your own!
xD

I have a funny story for today~

We were talking about different landforms and whatnot and I showed them a picture of a sand dune.
That got us on the topic of deserts and here is one of the results of that.

Kid #1- "Mrs. C do deserts still have those cheese... Cheese towers?"
Me- "The what?"
Kid #1- "You know, the Cheese Towers!"
Me- "I'm afraid that I don't know what you're talking about...."
Kid #2 to Kid #1- "Do you mean the pyramids?"
Kid #1- "YEAH! The Pyramids!! Do deserts still have those??"
Me struggling to keep a straight face- "Yes, there are still pyramids in the world...."

and then we managed to move on to mummies and thankfully it was time for recess.

Cheese Towers.

How on earth did that other kid even figure out that he was trying to ask about pyramids??

/shakes head.

If you are talking to me, please ping or quote me. I get distracted and lose track of what I'm doing easily.

My only explanation is that maybe he thinks it looks like cheese piled on top of each other?
I don't even know.
But I do know I will be calling them that as well.

I don't see it.
Too bad we aren't talking about pyramids in AP Art History anymore.

Oh man, kids say the greatest things. I used to do a lot of Sunday school teaching/helping, and like VBS stuff. It's so cute. Also I love "cheese towers," haha.

It was really cute. I gave them a confused look and they hid their face/laughed it off.

We pretty much are though!
We're with them for 6-7 hours a day, 5 days a week!

This makes me want to look at all the cards that previous students have made for me.

I work in a school that is 80% economically disadvantaged. I have had several of my students ask me to really be their mom or they ask if they can come home with me. It breaks my heart, but I can't adopt all 60 of my babies. xD

Oh my gosh, that is sad.
:c
I just heard about one of my previous students (a friend of mine has him now) home situation, and his parents are never around. He ends up harming himself (he... sucks on his toe) and since his parents aren't around to stop him, it gets worse and worse.

I wish I could help him out in some way.

Even with students who get reduced lunches, when they don't have food I want to offer my own. :c

Nooo! Parents have so much power and it makes me so sad when they don't use it for the good of their child. YOU MADE THE CHILD.

That's hilarious!

When I was in third grade, my English teacher handed out a syllabus. But instead of reading "I can't wait to see your smiling faces" she wrote "I can't wait to see your smiling feces". I didn't know what that meant at the time, but it's funny looking back on it,
