speaking of eating pets...

people need to take a chill pill about the matter of eating dog meat
those festivals in china where actual pet dogs are taken are horrible, but when you have to do it to survive, then the dog is just another animal and another mouth to feed if you keep it as a pet :'3c

I mean, yes, when it comes to that, horses, frogs, dogs, grasshoppers, worms, grubs, whatever you can get your hands on and eat without harming yourself is fair game.

Hell, there were people who starved so badly they'd eat clay to fill their stomachs, to deal with the hunger. And naturally that wasn't good at all. Between clay and dog, I'd prefer people eat dog. Because hunger sucks, and at least dog won't kill you.

there have been times through out history that pets have been eaten as a last resort because of starvation but something to keep in mind is...better to get a continual milk supply from the cow or goat or sheep then to kill it for its meat. Same for the chicken, better to get a daily egg then to eat for a day and then have nothing.

Well, most mammals aren't really naturally the type to drink milk after a certain age. So adult human default is lactose intolerance. Yes... but the animals have to eat too. There've been some pretty awful famines historically in china. Where people would end up eating clay because even bugs were hard to find and they couldn't get enough bugs, roots, or fish or frogs or anything like that to fill their stomachs. So... by that point... even the chicken probably won't be able to be kept fed.

yup, no bugs, no food for the chicken. I do remember watching a Japanese subtitled show where they were picking fallen rice kernels from the ground to eat and boiling straw grass etc but I did not know it came down to people in China eating clay. That is so very sad! You wonder, how could there not be anything!?!?

I think some of it was due to overpopulation + bad harvests + droughts

I mean, there's a lot of reasons why things can get that bad technically, it's just hard to imagine.

yep, we are so fortunate where we live. Unfortunately we waste too much food.

That's true... and we also eat too much. Not enough and way too much all at once. Wish there could be reduction in food waste, or something. Some people starve and others get fat on good food.

isn't that what communism promoted - equal food for everyone? Although that didn't work did it - there will always be people who have more. I don't need luxury, I just want to enjoy what I eat.

I mean, sorta? And the idea of communism itself wasn't bad, but in practice it's pretty flawed.

I was thinking more along the lines of ways for people to spread out the food. Like instant food transfer, so that food can be fresher and also extra uneaten foods don't just get thrown out to the trash

replicators?

Ohh or something from transmetropolitan. Handheld "makers" which basically break stuff down into molecules/atoms and rearranges it to make whatever. And the poor scan trash with makers to make their food.

But what I was thinking bout was something like little teleport stuff. Restaurants etc. could work with the local food shelters to get rid of their food that isn't eaten by donating it directly to the poor.

They can 3d print pizza! One day food replicators will be possible. Teleportation, I'm not so sure about. :/

Teleportation would be pretty nifty!

But for 3d printing, yeah, that's more likely.. if you speed it up, then cooking time and preparation time would decrease and then perhaps there would be less waste. And less of a need to stock up on perishables, perhaps?

would we need farming if there is 3d printing? Will actual food prices become astronomical?
