we'd probably stave ourselfs off of genetically engineered food--- or eating would become a thing of a past if we're able to ingest nutrients without actually consuming foods.

i can see mealtimes becoming a luxury pasttime, lol

yeaaaah, I could see that. It'd be nice though to get some nifty genes that prevent you from growing overweight or something. Then we can eat all the foods!

I'm more of one for immortality.

Hm...?

What do you mean by family and friends stuff, there's a lot of ways that can be interpreted.

Well like most people say they dislike immortality because of leaving behind their loved ones etc.

aaah, nope, that's not my concern. I mean, it *is* a concern, but it's like... life sucks. WHo the hell wants to live forever and why? You can't be killed? That doesn't mean you can't be tortured. You can't die? That doesn't mean you can't go insane from grief or loneliness. Just because you live forever doesn't mean you can be happy and optimistic. It doesn't mean you don't feel pain. It doesn't mean you don't have to work to support yourself. It means you have all the time in the world to grow jaded and biter. To see just how awful people can be. There's still going to be beauty... but... there will be a lot of pain too.

I'd hate to give up eating altogether - there are some foods I really enjoy eating.

Did you ever watch the series "Highlander" ? He lived "forever" (so long as no one cut off his neck), never aged, but he certainly went through heart ache and pain (never mind people trying to kill him). Unless everyone lived forever I think you would always be running into the problems he had ( or people trying to dissect you etc). There have been other shows where people lived a long time and it never seemed to be ideal.

There would have to be a lot of conditions attached to immortality to make it a real consideration. That's what I loved about THE TWILIGHT ZONE, they'd take these ideas/situations that you think would be great and stand them on their ear and show you the drawbacks. There was this one episode where a guy gets his wish to be immortal and he ends up killing someone by accident and getting life in prison!

There are many situations that sound good but in reality, if you thought them through, would not be ideal.
