Childhood Fears

When I was being left home alone for the first time, my mother told me a story about a child back in Russia who had his eyes gouged out with his keys by men who broke in. That left me super paranoid when I was home by myself and I locked every single lock.

You can put all the locks you want on the doors but if your windows aren't barred or made of thick glass then anyone who is insistent at entering just needs to cut or break the window.- Of course leaving the door unlocked just makes it that much easier.

When we were burglarized, they had cut the window to enter and then just walked out the door with our stuff.

So I guess I have a fear of someone breaking in and that causes me to wonder what MY exit plan would be if someone broke in.

We lived in apartment on a high floor so a break in through the window wasn't as big a threat.

I'm not eliminating all possibilities, but if you see my building you'd realize it's quite unlikely. And of all places, I just don't see how mine would be a target.

ISE: well that is comforting then

Fiel-kun: I think lots of us can relate to being afraid of the dark, especially noises in the dark, and spooky experiences that seem like ghosts.

I'm afraid of insects and arachnids, spiders and bees especially. It's funny because the more I learned about them, the more afraid I became because I knew what they were capable of. So now whenever I see a spider or something I freak the hell out.
