Super srs debate time~

Postby Mousy » Thu Jul 23, 2015 7:41 pm

I was watching the news today and the news lady referred to the beautiful and glorious hot dog as a "sandwich." Reduced it to a simple, common sandwich.

I need to know where you Winners stand on this super important srs topic!

Is the hot dog a sandwich? Or is it a stand alone item?

Whatever you decide, please back it up. I need reasons. What made you come to your life-altering decision?

*I'm posting from my phone bc the topic is that pressing. I may not respond quickly, but feel free to debate amongst yourselves. I will understand if differing opinions ruin your friendships. Good luck to you all.

sadly, anything edible that is "sandwiched" between two pieces of bread is a sandwich.

I think a hotdog is it's own thing/package. Wouldn't it be called a hotdog sandwich otherwise??

But the hinge placement! I feel like I'd rather call it a taco before I called it a sandwich...

hmm, you may have something on the "hinged" technicality.... I mean is it really a bun if it is hinged? what other buns are hinged besides a hotdog bun? A hamburger is considered a sandwich but the bun is not hinged...

What about meatball subs? They have hinges still (most of the time), but they are sandwiches!

Good point!
Is a sub a sandwich? Is a hot dog a sub? ...... hmmmm, I wonder.....

but I still stand by my belief that a hot dog on a bun is a sandwich...however, am adding that a hot dog on a stick, is not

I think a hotdog is a form of sandwich, afterall it has bread enveloping it, meat (sausage) in the middle and sometimes you can add cabbage or something (idk). But we call it a hot dog but a sandwich isn't a hot dog. I think it's a bit like how we call a square a rectangle but a rectangle is not a square... I think I just confused myself. xD

Technically, the hotdog rests between "2" pieces of bread like a sandwich.

I say both.

I'm still contemplating... are sandwiches made with 2 slices of bread and a sub a roll?

what is a wrap? what is a burrito? what category does a taco fall under...? Are sloppy joe's a sandwich? why did I ever get started down this road???? (wails...whhhyyyy )

if a sandwich is made with 2 slices of bread, anything thats not that isnt.

Subs are sandwiches because they call them sub sandwiches. Thats just a type of sandwich.
Sloppy joes are sammiches.

Unless you count tortillas as bread.

I'm so sorry I have steered you guys in this direction

Now, as for the sub argument.. I think that is all about hinge placement. With a hot dog, the hinge is parallel with the ground. You eat it meat up, hinge down. We're disregarding the "headturners" for the sake of this argument. However, a sub has a hinge that is parallel with the horizon.. you eat it with hinge to the side and meat to the other side. You don't turn it up and eat a sub taco style.
