Hello there.

Lemon, what are you making? Leftovers are an accurate representation of my life. My family doesn't like to be wasteful. "There's food in the house" refers to a stale hotdog and some sour cream.

leftovers actually make for some pretty yummy homemade soup!

How are you Balcan? You are just in time to get some items from the Carnivale - the 21st they pack up and leave...don't forget to visit the ticket booth for daily tickets to use.

When there was hunger in my country we had to combine leftovers into one big gross food conglomerate because there really wasn't another option. I think that is why borscht became popular - it can be made with so many different ingredients - there is not just one recipe. I don't think many people enjoy the taste of borscht so much as they have gotten used to it.

Oh my gosh - I LOVE borscht!

Stew is a similar poor man's food - cheap cuts of meat boiled for a longtime and throw in what you have for veggies...make some dumplings if you have no bread or they use to dip the stale bread in the soup or stew. As much as we didn't have much when I was a child we still managed to have some sort of meal...even if it was just eggs from the chickens we had, but my grandparents weren't so fortunate, often going without a meal and no heat in freezing temperatures.

I think almost everyone has scrapped together something leftover in the kitchen when there's not much to eat. But going without heat is another thing. I couldn't deal with it being too cold. My family has used a portable kerosene heater back when I was a kid, to keep warm. I use a space heater now. Boyfriend still has it out cause it can get cool at night and morning.

Nights have either been hot or cold here. Temperature seems more stable during the day.

our day was actually quite lovely... for the brief moments I experienced when I got to go outside...it looked nice through the window... but there is a chance for rain Friday which I am really hoping for because my flowers our drying up.

Hope you get some!

It was like a summer day out today. Nice to have a reason to go out with it so warm.
