Welcome to Windlyn!

Happy to see a new hangout! Mind if I take a seat in the corner while I wait until more people arrive?

On a side note, I seem to recall a bit of trivia from HS history class about the origin of "OK." I'll have to look it up, but one president used to initial official documents with "OK" (which weren't his initials), but it became known as "giving his OK." Funny how it caught on in everyday language!

Well, I hope you enjoy your time here! :)

Oh, that is a fun bit of information! I always thought OK was an abbreviation or an acronym, but this makes more sense.
A quick google search gives me this
OK is short for oll korrect, but it is not of military origin. It started as a comical abbreviation during a fad in New England in the 1830s.

and
Used in Greek. The abbreviation is pronounced as the English okay.

So that was not helpful at all. Haha.

OK (LOL), so I looked it up and it's Van Buren that I was taught about. It stood for "Old Kinderhook" (his nickname). But it seems there's an earlier usage 175 years ago too!

I just thought of something amusing--I bet I couldn't go a whole day without saying or typing OK! :cheer:

hmmm some interesting tidbits...

<and just so you know, hangouts gives the most feathers for posting, spam posting is the least at 1 feather and you get nothing for double posting>

Head over to the game threads (links in my signature) if you want a chance to earn extra feathers (other then posting).

Might have to sign my name as OK in real life now. Didn't know it was a legitimate signature! Though I'll pass the silly nickname.
Where were you taught about this? Did you take a special class in college/uni? Or was this just a random thing some highschool teacher thought was fun to know about?

Thanks Lemon. I kind of figured the double posts were not feathered for that reason. It's actually a very clever way to cut back on spam!
Never really had any interest in game forums before. They are too much work for little pay off. Probably going to pass on this sites game forums too.

ok..we post in the game threads as well...I started them as a way to give new comers a chance to earn extra feathers faster.

But the star pond fishing has some rare items and you can fish every 8 hours.

It was just a random thing that my 8th grade history teacher mentioned. He was a pretty good teacher because I remember a lot of the things he taught--like a lot of the classic rock bands were named after historic people. ;)

You can play the mini games for feathers too, but be forewarned that Doughnuts are addicting!!

Which bands galled? I can only think of Franz Ferdinard - they're not even classic rock.

Jethro Tull, Aerosmith (Arrowsmith), Paul Revere and the Raiders, and Crazy Horse. There are some punk rock bands too--The Dead Kennedys, etc..
