Finding a therapist is a lot like dating, which doesn't really help with the anxiety, I imagine. I have a somewhat similar experience.

I see a therapist that is good for people with intellectual disabilities and she is super fabulous. I love her!

Why does life have to be so hard? I just feel like it should be simpler than what it is.

I think it's a chicken or egg thing: Human life is about relationships. Relationships make life easier and life being hard makes relationships more precious. :)

It's hard to connect with people when you don't even understand how they work. Places like this make it easier, though.

I hate to put people in "boxes," but we're all not that different (we have more in common than not). Just very quickly there are two basic ends of the spectrum: logical and emotional. Everyone fits somewhere along there. What's different is the motivation/things that move you (good or bad is just a direction). Follow the money is a big one, but you can replace "money" with x. Motivators can be specific, but there aren't that many categories that everything falls under (love/hate, etc.). Yes, down and dirty, but it can get you in the general area of how someone works. I should add, that everyone, and I mean EVERYONE is broken one way or another. I see it as how it makes life interesting and if we can help than life is better all around!

Agreed! Places like Windlyn are special! Happy Easter!

Oh, I didn't mean I could easily categorize people, or that I should. I just mean I feel a fundamental gap when I attempt communication that winds up leaving everyone confused. I'm not going to stop practicing, it's just a bit lonely. I'm better than I was a decade ago, measurably, and I don't really suffer anxiety, so fail forward faster, I guess.

I have some really cool ears I have to decide between when Easter crops up. I may have something in mind, but it doesn't feel finished, yet.

You're able to communicate very well (I'd even say exceedingly well!). You are thoughtful and have the vocabulary. Would you say it's a confidence or perhaps self-awareness cause?

In any case, really glad you've made progress and that you see it. COVID-era changed society for the worse... we'll all come back from it. It's an inate human desire/requirement to be social.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

I wouldn't say it's an issue with confidence or self-awareness, galled. It's that I'm really bad at picking up on things like expressions and body language. Not very good at subtext; I either see something where there isn't, or completely miss something obvious. I've had to come at it from the thinking side, it's not instinctive for me at all. But Rome is still Rome, no matter what road to take there. It's certainly a worthwhile destination.

Are church cheeseburgers a tradition...?

Understood. It's more common today than in older times when people consumed professional entertainment where actors presented in ways that were understood within that society (smile for happy, sit straight for attentiveness, etc.--in another culture smiling e.g. showing teeth would be a sign of anger or agressiveness). I'm afraid we've lost a lot of that common language (where method acting can go off the rails). It can be learned of course (acting--both doing and watching), but the most practical thing I use is I ask questions. (Asking questions is an art too.)

The funny thing is most people like to talk about themselves--if you're genuinely interested ask questions and you'll learn a ton (if they're not being deceptive--and in that case you're not to blame for not getting "it") and before you know it, you'll be friends!

You sound like you're on it. I'm not worried about you (in this area if I may be so bold!).
