Schools don’t start until after labor day here. So September 9th this year. We also let out the last week of June every year.

Canada does it right with schools starting after labor day!
I wonder why the US stopped doing that?
Or is it only in some places in the US that schools start mid August?

I had a yummy salad last night with my favorite carrot ginger salad dressing.

Now all that craziness about lettuce recalls makes me think someone is out to get those people who are trying to make us eat healthier.

All this argument between US/Canada, what's in a name? we are all part of the Continent of America... even central & south america is america. so I looked up the history:

"Before it was named America in 1507, the land was called the New World or The Indies by Europeans, and various names like Turtle Island or Abya Yala by Indigenous peoples
"The Americas (Geographic): In many parts of the world and in several languages (like Spanish and Portuguese), America or "the Americas" means the entire landmass of North, Central, and South America."

"Amerigo Vespucci: The name comes from Amerigo Vespucci, an Italian explorer who sailed to the Western Hemisphere in the late 15th and early 16th centuries"

"Martin Waldseemüller: In 1507, a German mapmaker named Martin Waldseemüller put the name "America"—a Latinized, feminine version of Amerigo—on a world map to honor Vespucci"

So we all could have been called turtle island!! Which translated into native people's language depends on the tribe/culture.

That said, the word Canada - or Kanata - is derived from a indigenous word for town.

I can feel the evenings already cooling down, we are supposed to get heavier rains this year starting earlier.

Like yesterday where my store flooded and so did my therapist's car!

Did your Therapist's car get ruined? I know people who have lost their vehicles that way (in floods).

Does that mean all the food at the store has to be thrown out?

Wooboy! I would think that the health department and food safety folks have all kinds of rules when a grocery store floods. A terrible loss for sure!

Can you give us some more details on where the store is located regarding nearby rivers, etc., or was the flood due to street drainage getting backed up/overwhelmed? I'm assuming it wasn't a plumbing (or fire hydrant) issue.

Glad everyone is safe and it was only property loss!

We are supposed to have a storm coming up the coast but not sure if it will hit us ... we need rains but I don't want flooding!!
