It will be something new for me but I know I'll be happy as long as everyone likes them. Seeing people enjoy things I make, is always a nice feeling. I'm honestly excited to give this a try!
I really want to make snicker-doodles. I'm not sure when though, but I'll make a note of it so that I don't just forget. I will let you all know and maybe, if I can and remember to, share a photo of the results.
I love snickerdoodles. Best cookies hands down. I recently baked some bagels! I shoulda kept the center holes smaller for puffier bagels but they tasted great and had wonderful chew. Mmmm. I've also been pretty good at baking weekly bread lately. I hope the snickerdoodles turn out tasty! They're so fun to roll and bake imo.
It looks like the difference between regular cookies & snicker doodles is the snicker doodles use cream of tartar powder . Not something generally used in most recipes I have tried. "What Does Cream of Tartar Do in Cookies? Cream of tartar makes cookies chewy, as it precludes the sugar in the dough from crystalizing, which would lead to crispiness (ie: the opposite of chewiness)"
This is something I did not know!
I tend to like my cookies crispy so maybe that is why I haven't really used it before.
Let me make a note of that. I was just at the store today before the cookie talk. So I'll have to remember this for the next time I do some grocery shopping.
Thank you! Yes, I had to triple check the math but yeah it's been a few years now. I didn't even know that myself. hahah
So, I was looking online & found out the cream of tartar gives the snicker doodles the "tanginess". So if you don't like that you can omit it. But it also gives it the fluff so not using it would make them flatter.
I also learned cream of tartar is used in whipping cream to make it fluffy & light!

@Lemon I looked at the charity you mentioned, if I could get anything it would be a bunny. I didn't know there were bunny items here before. Clearly I missed out on a lot of events. Oops.
Ohh okay. Well I'll probably use it so that I don't end up with flat cookies. (^_^;)
@npixelz: I'm alright. My internet is down though so I'm currently on my phone.
JinMay: I found out from someone i used to work with that is now working at Costco, that Costco gives health, eye & vision insurance even if you work part time! Do you have a Costco near you that you might be able to apply for work? I am assuming if you got a job with them & wanted to move you might be able to transfer. I known Trader Joe's would allow people to transfer to another store if there were openings so maybe Costco does too? The Post al service allows that as well if there are openings & you get benefits ir you are part time. But I think Costco would be better hours.
Did you want a bunny that is foreground, or the "late" bunny that is hand held?
Lemon: Oooh hmm.. there is a Costco somewhat nearby where I live. I could give it a shot and apply there. It would be a nice start. Thank you for the heads up!
Re: Bagels; they're traditionally parboiled because that helps give them the chewy, soft, dense inside, and glossy, thin but crunchy membrane on the outside. Mmmm.
Cream of Tartar is good shit, but I rarely use it. I almost always substitute with baking powder since I always have that on hand. If anyone's looking for a recipe recommendation on Snickerdoodles, I've had lots of success with this one. Even substituting both cream of tartar and soda for powder I get nice puffy cookies. Now I'm curious how much puffier they'll be if I bit the bullet and got some cream of tartar.
Well, I was wondering what dessert I was gonna make today. Decent chance I'll end up whipping up some cookies
Thank you for the recipe! I'm going to save it for future reference. I do have baking powder, I think, so maybe I'll just substitute the cream of tartar with that instead. Baking is a lot of trial and error so if they don't turn out great at least I'll know what to change for improvements.
