I saw an advertisement that Burger King has soft serve ice cream cones.

Almost worth going in there just to try them. Mini, kid size ones, for free. One bite size.

Not enough to cool you down, sorry it is so hot where you are!

Today was cooler

And oh my fog. The shit was so thick it was hard to see sometimes. It was a good thing I was going slow cuz of how close I was to the deer before it decided to go out onto the road. Fortunately I'd seen it and so was already slowing down (from 40, not the usual 55) before it went out

Heat gone, but the humidity...

That's good your Spidey-sense was working! I have a friend who hit a deer. It ran off, but it really damaged her car. It was in the shop for weeks (thousands of dollars to repair). Insurance covered it, but much better for everyone if it can be avoided.

I was going off of how it was on the edge of the road, rather than farther back. Deer standing like that are more likely to run in front of you

Hotter here today then it has been ( not as hot as some places in the country though!).

I've had a deer run out in front of me before, fortunately I had seen it ahead on the side of the road & had slowed down to a crawl ... but it ran across, tried to climb up a hill & then came running back in front of me! so crazy!

My brother, years ago, had hit a deer. Took out the light bucket. He'd searched and searched and finally found a replacement. Gets it installed, shortly after was stopped to let a herd cross when a buck decided to turn back and took out the just replaced bucket
The only reason dad believes what happened was cuz he was in the car behind my brother and so saw it happen. Dad has always had a strained relationship with his stepson. From what I've been told my brother saw dad as someone keeping his parents from getting back together. These days it's still not necessarily good, but it's a lot better than it was

Speaking of dad I was doing yard work and sent him a text asking to come help cuz some of the grapevines (wild grapes, very sour) were being incredibly stubborn. I sent the text basically right as he sat down to take a break from being up in his workshop. So he showed up a lot faster than I expected, cuz I changed clothes cuz hot, sweaty, and covered in grass bits from the weed whacker. We got a fair bit done, looked at some trees (they're right over the underground river so explosive growth, big strong branches n such), and here comes someone pulling in. Was a pair of my friends. One was the friend who lived with me for a while, she was thrilled to see dad. The other got an intro to dad and dad's sense of humor and now he understands where mine comes from. Gave them shit about going out and about together and always leaving me out like a couple assholes. They both knew I was mostly joking (they live close together and I'm way off from them, so I'm not surprised in the slightest), but we made tentative plans for a Sunday at the theme park. That way her fiance can join in. He got to see the haircut for the first time, she got an update on the growth, and both got to see outdoor changes
Rather pleased with myself on how much ended up getting done today. Dad said he's gotta bring his weed whacker out for the thicker stuff. The one I have has the plastic wire, his is a metal disc and much better suited for thicker stems and the like. Still, the one I have was doing surprisingly well with what it was up against cuz it was smacked stuff thicker than long grass. Still gotta grab my rake and deal with the one patch that still has wood in it, but I made yard progress!

Oh shit long post

No way! What are the odds of it getting hit twice!

Friends helping is always a plus.

I like the sounds of your Dad!

Hope you do go have fun at the theme park!

I don't have much luck with weed eaters.

Especially with how long it took him to find the replacement

Oh, they showed up after we'd already gotten the vines yanked out. We were checking out some of the less-accessible trees in my back yard, they're a decade old at most and all of them are much taller than their parent tree. At least two are just flat out bigger. Or the one was until a big branch came down

He's got some incredibly bad politics and I know he won't listen to me about them because I'm opposed on the ones he rants about the most, so I try and redirect him. Or just tune him out

We're making tentative plans, likely a Sunday so her fiance can come along

Oh?

Your arms must feel pumped from pulling the weeds/vines.

Relationships are complicated. Hard not to give up ideas we develop as kids but hopefully over time thee will be forgiveness.

I try to stay away from political conversations especially when they start to go nasty ... and especially since I am quite opinionated.

The weeds were just cut down. They're low enough that dad can just mow over them now, I'm would've done the entire side yard but there's flowers blooming and I do not want to kill those. Yet

Some of the stuff I do agree on. Like for a Class A CDL you're supposed to be able to read and write in English because that's what the signs are in. Some overseas international who could not had his brakes fail and because he couldn't read English, didnt realize what the crash ramps are for and ended up killing a family of five instead. Which caused a crackdown and the DoT is catching a lot of illegally operating internationals. Primarily overseas, but iirc Canadaian drivers are getting the brunt too. Cuz they're not just pulling the truck over, they're removing the driver(s) and confiscating their licenses so now it's costing companies. You're not supposed to have four drivers in a single truck, none of whom are literate in English

Being able to read and write English is required for pilots. Class A has life and death potentials too.

Do you have some steep hills around you, Kit. Just wondering because I've only seen crash ramps on really steep hills.

ohh I like the idea of flowers in the side field.

Our neighbor likes to ride around on their riding lawn mower ... I think it would be a lot of vibration

Contract drivers should be able to speak English so they communicate with whoever they are dropping supplies to.

I saw a story in NYP that a woman was keeping a "natural garden" and she was sued by the HOA. It looked messy, but upon closer inspection, it was all divided into sections and she had proof she studied what plants would do well where, etc.. It just looked messy to the neighbors (tall weeds). The compromise was she moved the really tall ones to another side of the yard and kept the similar sized ones together. Compromise perhaps, but the HOA really couldn't invoke the unkept yard charges they levied against her. Interesting.

There's also issues when emergencies on the road happen. Say a state trooper is giving safety instructions (road washed out, take this route instead, road is unsafe for trucks, etc.). When time is critical, communication issues create greater loss potential.

I want nearly my entire yard to be wildflowers n such so that taking care of it is minimal
Smallish area in back for fire pit n stuff. Have that be something low-lying
