If you're a newbie or just take pics for fun, that's one thing, but as a newbie, you need to learn the mechanics if you want to be professional. Honestly, once they learn what's what, they can figure it out.
Basically, the ISO is the light sensitivity, aperture is how open the lens is, and shutter speed, well, is how long it takes to take the picture.
The more open the aperture, the longer the shutter, and the more sensitive the iso gets, the more light is in the picture. The more closed the aperture, the short the shutter, and the less sensitive to light the iso gets, the darker the picture. Once you understand that, you pretty much can accomplish anything.
I took a picture of my room once with flash and the picture was still pretty dark and bad looking. I then took another pic without flash and adjusted the setting, you can make out the objects and it looked better. It's actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
