You'd probably think it wasn't ripe but you would be in for a very pleasant surprise.
I saw an article that said if you cut into a watermelon & the rind foams along the cut don't eat it as you could get sick.
Apparently if watermelons get too hot they ferment... however I think when they transport them they don't refrigerate them... so how would you know buying one?
