I've been doing some work experience in a library and whoooo, you wouldn't believe how time consuming simple jobs like returning books can be

It's a big task looking for the correct books!
But very interesting to work at a library

Volunteering (not necessarily just the library) is a great way to meet people, especially people with similar interests, plus it gives you work experience and a reference for resumes...and it helps lift the spirits ( for me anyway) when I feel I am helping others and in some cases making a difference ( like if I do beach clean up or volunteer in a day care or help with a fundraiser).

The other good thing about volunteering is you can leave at any time, and most people know that so they tend to be nicer to you.

True. I like helping people, and meeting new people is nice, too.

It's far better to get an idea of what's out there for job/career options in real terms. Many many students go into majors without really understanding the employment field they've selected and end up not liking it. It's far better to know you won't like it before you get your degree!

When you are doing placements or practicum's I find people are very helpful!
