Gonna get a turkey from the Foodbank and some other places around here for everything we need. I love helpful organizations!

Dragoness: I'll glad you can get what you need.

My family usually has chicken for thanksgiving.

the nice thing is that the local groceries stories often give the turkey's away if you buy so much worth of groceries or have a coupon from the grocery ads or they sell them at super cheap - like 47 cents a pound

Any particular reason, Watery? I love Chicken and Turkey so much! I prefer the white meat to red meats.

There was a grocery store that did that before we moved, but you would have to spend about $400 in regular groceries before you got enough "turkey points" to get a free turkey.

oh my gosh - I feel so much more appreciative of where I live then! Ours would be spend about $75 and get a free turkey. I'll have to see what they offer this year. Sometimes its buy one get one free. I like the breast meat but I think that fat in the leg meat makes me sick. I saw Stove Top stuffing had $1.49 a box but that or the other brand for make your own should be .99 next week.

I've never tried making my own bread crumbs/croutons from scratch. Not that efficient!

Wow! That is quite the difference!
Yep, I love seeing things on sale!
I have made my own once when I was younger because I was helping my grandma make it. It was pretty fun. ^_^ I enjoy cooking with my grandma. ^_^

hmm maybe we have more competition with their being so many grocery stores around...you could almost get a free meal if you took all the free coupons in the grocery flyers or $ off in digital coupons and went shopping at the different stores - which believe me I take advantage of. The prices can be high off sale but the sales and deals are sometimes incredible. You can't beat a jar of Ragu spaghetti sauce for $1.49 and a box of noodles for 99cents ( well I have seen the sauce for .99 as well though). It's the meat that is most expensive, but even the grated cheese comes on for $1-$2 a bag. - its that 3 week cycle I tell you, watch for those deals.

I just bought a huge 3.5 bag of Tootsie roll/Dot/T.pop candy for $1.79 on Halloween clearance. I am going to donate some bags for the community Christmas treat bags. It helps them out and I also get to feel good! Now I just need to find a deal on the chocolate bars for it.

I used to like cooking with my Grandma too, my favorite dishes are learned from her.

Oooh, that does sounds like a great place to live! Lots of variety and chance to be super thrifty!
Is it just like that for grocery or other type stores as well? Like crafting stores for example.
Very nice! That is super sweet! Doing something good just to help out and feel good yourself is always a great feeling! ^_^

good question, we have craft stores and sometimes they have some fabulous clearance prices.
Last year I got those silky fabric pouches - I think it was less then 10 cents each and I filled them with an assortment of sealed tea bags I bought on sale and handed those out as Christmas treat bags to friends instead of cards. They got to try new types of tea and I got to give something that cost very little. I am starting to look for my favorite teas on sale now and need to go check out the craft stores for the bags again. I suppose I could just wrap the tea bags with ribbon. If I was efficient I'd bake cookies to go with them!

that's the thing isn't it - to be able to give something without putting one in debt! And for me, the less work it is the better because winter is a hectic time for me.

speaking of tea - I suddenly have the inclination to make me a cup! would you care for some too- ?

well, at least we have work and that means money to pay the bills and for the most part I enjoy my customers so it is fun to make them little treats, especially the seniors because they are always so appreciative.
