Now that you say that, some of the scenes in Valarian reminded me of Fifth element, but Valerian is no where on the same level as Fifth element (which I can watch over and over again).
I agee. VALERIAN is beautifully shot with the director's signature super-saturated color and quirky sci-fi art direction. However, the story is rather old-hat now, but the biggest distraction IMHO were the main actors simply lacked the screen charisma to the level a movie of that calibre required. I'll watch it again simply for the visual spectacle, but probably it will never see anywhere near the repeat reviewability of THE FIFTH ELEMENT.
Ya, Valerian I believe was a flop at the theater's and the main actors don't have the strength to carry the movie or endear me to them, but there was quite a bit of special effects and other story lines that interested me. Actually, when I think on it more, there was quite a lot more that was happening in the story line that I may have missed so it wouldn't hurt to watch it again and check it out.
