That's cool.
I had to take Geometry twice although I nearly passed a standardized test that would of passed me the first time.

I didn't like my teacher. He wasn't job at helping those that were struggling. He just would be in shock when the class was doing poorly.

No he was maybe in his 30s? He was a Star Wars fan. We watched Star Wars The Phantom Menace in class. I did get to pie him in the face though!

It's kind of frustrating cause I don't think he was a bad guy just wasn't that great at his job. I'd hope that he improved since then. I had a much worse teacher that I think I was responsible for her quitting/being fired.

I had a math Teacher that would come to class drunk and we had to teach our selves through the text book. When you asked him how to do something he'd tell us to look it up and one time as he was working out an equation on the board, to try and show us for a change, and saying "I don't know if this is right, I think it's right" I remember thinking ok, omg we're screwed. I'm not going to learn anything from him. I tried to transfer out of his class but too many people had transferred and they said they couldn't allow anyone else to leave. Sometimes I wonder if I had gotten the other teacher ( who every one raved about) if I actually could have done better with math. I think he was close to retirement and they didn't want to do anything.

Watery, it takes a lot for them to "fire" a Teacher, unless they are on probation, very often its an accumulation of factors but they can put pressure on them to quit if there have been complaints/problems. More often I've just seen them switched to another position though.
My second grade Teacher was so incredibly mean and she ended up having a nervous break down ( looking back I think she had gotten in a fight with her husband and he broke her arm so that is probably why she was so nasty but she was way worse to the boys and the classroom was chaos) and she did end up leaving, as a kid I thought we had caused her to leave but we did get a super nice substitute in her place for which I was extremely grateful. A Teacher can make all the difference in a young person's life. That is why I think we need to appreciate Teacher's more and make sure who gets placed in the position to Teach should be right for the job.

Ugh that sounds awful Lemon. Good thing it's behind you. I tried to transfer out and was talked out of it because I guess I waited too long to do so, or maybe it was a scheduling conflict.

Well I guess I should have said "lead to her possible quitting/firing". There were a couple parent-teacher conferences. She punished the class and made us write sentences all the time. I wasn't even in the class half the time this occurred but still had to do it because she said if one classmate is punished we all got punished. I actually forget the incident that lead to the second parent-teacher conference. I know the principal didn't like how I'd get punished for something I didn't do and didn't witness and would miss out on recess because I had to write a sentence a hundred times. I was out of the class for study help. I would of preferred to just study through recess than a meaningless punishment of writing sentences.
She was only there a year and it seemed odd for her to already be leaving. I mean with everything that happened she had to of been pressured to quit if not fired.

I didn't like my first grade teacher for slapping my hand for holding a pencil wrong and just being cold and distant. Sad to hear that about you 2nd grade teacher but she shouldn't of lashed out like that. I do appreciate the teachers I've had. There was really just that one teacher that I hated. She sang opera and I don't think she was really fit for being a teacher. I had a wonderful English teacher that passed away too soon. I forget if I was in school still or recently graduated when she passed. I also had a supportive science teacher who looked out for me my senior year. There was an awesome sub too, funny guy. I'm glad he had a permanent sub position there cause he was great. Oh I also wondered if my Geometry teacher (the same one couldn't have the other one) went a bit easy on me because my senior year.

I had some Teachers that were very helpful and that I enjoyed being in their class. I loved my third grade Teacher. I suppose that is why it is sad when Teacher's are hired that shouldn't be. I think if you have a passion for what you teach you can pass that spark on.I'm glad you had some good Teacher's. You were right to speak up about the conditions in the classroom especially if they were becoming abusive.

I don't think Teachers can slap a kids hand anymore or get a whipping at the Principal's office... I have heard stories of how things were at one time - watch some of the historical shows - being slapped with a ruler for writing left handed, whipped... at least we have come a long way from that.

But I do think there has to be consequences for bad behavior from the student and the Teacher does need to be allowed to tell the student their behavior is unacceptable and won't be tolerated if the student is disruptive or causing harm. Sadly the Parents aren't always supportive of the Teachers requests for discipline and their hands are tied. Some kids can be malicious never mind rude and when you hear what comes out of the Parents mouth you know the "apple doesn't fall far from the tree" so to speak.

I do feel lucky that I didn't grow up when being hit was allowed. I don't even think my 1st grade teacher hit my hand that hard, I think it just bothered me that she did it at all. I agree that troublesome students do need to be punished. I can imagine it being hard to find the right kind of punishment. They was a boy in my 4th grade class that liked to bully me(only time I was really bullied fortunately) and my teacher, who was a sweet heart, tried putting him in time-out. He found something to throw at me in his time-out spot once and would just act up again when his time was up. He wasn't there long, he moved away early the school year. Teacher also left for maternity leave.

I guess that is the tricky part - finding the right correction (discipline) for the child.

Well, I have taken some ibuprophen and am heading to bed, got a long day ahead tomorrow and I feel all worn out.

enjoy your day!

"Discipline" is the word I was looking for.

Sleep well. I needed to get back up for a silly game.

I had a horrible dream this morning ( I really do need to be careful what I watch before going to bed for the night) so woke up before the alarm and decided to go into work early but I am all worn out again. Now it is time for laundry etc. It never ends it seems.
