I had a math Teacher that would come to class drunk and we had to teach our selves through the text book. When you asked him how to do something he'd tell us to look it up and one time as he was working out an equation on the board, to try and show us for a change, and saying "I don't know if this is right, I think it's right" I remember thinking ok, omg we're screwed. I'm not going to learn anything from him. I tried to transfer out of his class but too many people had transferred and they said they couldn't allow anyone else to leave. Sometimes I wonder if I had gotten the other teacher ( who every one raved about) if I actually could have done better with math. I think he was close to retirement and they didn't want to do anything.
Watery, it takes a lot for them to "fire" a Teacher, unless they are on probation, very often its an accumulation of factors but they can put pressure on them to quit if there have been complaints/problems. More often I've just seen them switched to another position though.
My second grade Teacher was so incredibly mean and she ended up having a nervous break down ( looking back I think she had gotten in a fight with her husband and he broke her arm so that is probably why she was so nasty but she was way worse to the boys and the classroom was chaos) and she did end up leaving, as a kid I thought we had caused her to leave but we did get a super nice substitute in her place for which I was extremely grateful. A Teacher can make all the difference in a young person's life. That is why I think we need to appreciate Teacher's more and make sure who gets placed in the position to Teach should be right for the job.
