I think if you brought a friend or family member and were sitting behind a table it wouldn't be so bad - but I agree, if you become too popular then you lose your privacy and I wouldn't like that.
But the more I think of it the more I kind of like the idea of self publishing something and it isn't an outrageous cost anymore.
Come to think of it, the local school had a fundraiser of printing recipes for a cook book and someone else I met printed her poems.I'll have to ask her again about how much it costs, I can't remember if it is printed on demand .
And I just remembered someone else I know who is a nurse and wrote a book to help people cope that are in the hospice situation where their loved ones are dying. I am sure there are probably people around you that have been doing the same thing that you could ask. You don't HAVE to go to book signing events, especially when books can be sold online now.I don't think they have made a ton of money off their books but I have bought their's because I know them and you may sell some that way too.
