I'd say either is good because they are designed to create things and creating things is productive, and being productive is a heck of a lot better than not being productive or way better than destructive! If you've used a tablet before, then you're good. I've known people who love to draw simply back it in when they get a tablet when they hit the big learning curve.
I had to look up ocarina. Music is great for the soul, but I'd say unless you commit to learning to play it (like say you won't give it up until you learn X songs), you have that learning curve thing. But like most things, the things that are hard to do are the most rewarding!
