Ahh, is it just supposed to be a draft? In which case, there's still time!

You can send me that draft (with private info redacted) and I can try to help!

uhhh I think you can argue Monkeygirl - just treat the rebuttal like a "pet peeve" and get your ideas from that and then go from there to prove your point! There's always a difference of opinions, just figure out the difference.
Like if I said I liked to eat hot fudge sundaes you could point out the calories, how the fat content affects my body, etc. But I could say the pleasure of the taste and the relaxation it gives and endorphin's produced looking at it and eating it gives me is worth the stress reduction versus calories because I can go exercise etc to counter act that and if it made me go exercise that would ultimately be the best for my body over all ( or whatever).

It's just taking a look at something from both sides. Which side do you have to do?

I mean, in the sense for a college paper. I can't argue when I'm forced to. I also have to have strong feelings over something I actually care about.

I have to argue over something I don't understand. Globalization. I'm doing it against a person who says it's bad. I don't care. At all. About globalization. I don't really understand it. I don't get into things like that.

Heeh, is it? That's good!

The Pros and Cons of Globalization

Seems to be about international companies. Y'know sweat shops Apple's building where they raised nets around the building to prevent people from jumping off and committing suicide. Because conditions were so bad. Or oh... idk.... Coca Cola taking water from africa and the US ad other places and making it into Cocaa Cola and selling it cheaper than water
because fresh water is running out. But coke dehydrates you really.

Ooooh, or big corporations mining in Nigeria destroying forests and killing off the last of the wild mountain gorillas. Oooh, corporate dirty laundry, there's so much you could probably build a giant continent of plastic in the ocean. Oh wait...

Economics is an argument that can be used about competitive free markets that more companies should spread out all over the world and create a free market economy that's perfectly competitive (never gonna happen)

(Rattling ideas off the top of my head)

Areas to look into:
Economics Free markets competitive pricing etc, and how micro and macroeconomics are theoretically supposed to work.

How globalization has brought other cultures to a wider audience (anime, manga, disney art style originally drawing inspiration from japan. Knowledge of japanese foods and japanese delicacy. Expanding knowledge of other cultures fueled by consumerism and curiosity which will help bring down borders between nations)

A larger world view that opens the mind of the people to a wider world as things they use come from other cultures and locations and promotes learning and interest in the wider world (maybe, probably not) over isolationism.

How this is actually just a teamwork exercise on a massive scale fueled by self-interest that forces people to look out for others interests in order to preserve their own and deal with ecological stuff.

Faster info through the internet, better communications, technology grows through the power of competition (and profit!)

Something like that?

Now, opponents of globalization would say that globalization has caused trouble for countries with skilled workers who lose their jobs to those in countries that have a lower competitive cost. This harms workforces in developed countries. This causes issues for those who lose their jobs to cheaper workforces that may have worse quality. There are families to care for and people need their income to have a healthy economy. The idea that globalization is a free market is strangled by the barriers all over the world brought in by governments who look to protect their own interests.

Because of these unequal standards. Large multi-national corporations can exploit tax havens and their workers in order to get the most profit. With globalization and large corporations, their main focus is profit. The environment and natural resources are harmed. They say that globalization being a force for good is a sunk cost fallacy. Where globalization will improve the future. However if we look at it now, irrecoverable damage is being done to workforces, draining their lifebloods and the earth and its environment itself is heavily damaged.

*Has climbed onto a soapbox now*

To which I say:
You can't make an omelette without cracking a few eggs
no pain, no gain
screw you I'm a bloodsucking multinational corporate capitalist
corporate lawyer
politician
head of PR
Preparing for the apocalypse!

Humanity's own self-interest will save us all. People put their money where their hearts are. Multi-national coporations only survive through the power of consumers. Without consumers corporations are nothing! The people themselves rise up to take a stand against environmental harm. Nike has brought out a new brand of shoe that uses recycled plastics and other waste in an attempt to become more environmentally friendly due to the outcry over the environment from the populace! More and more companies are attempting to go green, and improve their methods to make for a sustainable economy.

Documentary after documentary has hit the street and spread awareness of the state of our world. People themselves using the power of self-determination decide what they support! This is a democracy! Virunga made a documentary supporting their battle against British Petroleum to protect the gorillas and their national park despite being in the middle of a civil war. With the power of the documentary Virunga, British Petroleum was forced to take a step back and give Virunga National Park some space! Through social media, through the efforts of journalists, through the efforts of activists, light is being shone on the darkness and forcing it to retreat.

Governments and corporations are sustained and exist only through the power of the people! People are their treasures and their source of power. Governments themselves will step in to help mitigate the damages. With the power of globalization, no country can stand alone anymore and so they are forced to work together and compromise. The world is wide and growing increasingly interconnected. Governments and corporations that wish to last simply need to look at the writing on the wall. There will be globalization, globalization is already there. It is up to governments to protect their people, their resources, and their interests through tariffs, laws, and trade agreements. The people themselves much watch their government and businesses like a hawk, and be ready to take a stand.

Globalization is here. It is already rooted. Corporations and governments can and will adapt for their own interests. If a government, a country, loses too many of its people. If a corporation loses the bulk of its customers it can only return to dust.

And... blah blah. I got lost in random speech-making. Something like that.

Kyndreth, please tell me you looked some of that up and it wasn't all in your brain... either way I am impressed.

Hey Monkeygirl, the internet is at your fingertips and quick research is at your disposal, take some of these ideas of Kyndreth's and run with it! You don't have to be compassionate about what you write (although it may help to have a stance) just present facts and use some flowery descriptive words (look those up too, another word for...) the info is out there

Some of it yeaaah, the stuff

Let's seee, these are the parts I referred to.
- globalization and workforce (I already knew it but the article I linked before confirmed it)
- exploiting tax havens is what I found out.
- Strangled by barriers part too
- resources being harmed was also confirmed to me

Climb on a soapbox and pretend you're a politician is my advice! Or that it's a debate you have to do. Losing is okay, but you have to lose after trying and putting up a fight. (but um... don't lose to yourself in your paper. That'd be awwwkwaaard)

The other thing you can do is disarm the other person's arguments. For example, globalization is bad for workers within a country losing jobs to lower costs workers, but the majority of the population will net lower prices for those goods. If the argument against pro-globalization contain lost jobs, the solution is to re-train those workers as the industry shifts (perhaps tariffs on those goods coming back into the country would be used to train these workers. The end result of lower cost goods at equal or better quality is desirable. What isn't desirable is lost jobs and a lower standard of living. If you can counteract that, they have no substantial argument left.
