today I found out there was such a thing as banana ketchup! And some countries use it like we use tomato sauce. She told me that ketchup is another word for sauce (not just our American version of ketchup). I never really thought about it but apparently tomato's are NOT grown in every country so some country's use different types of sauces.

I wouldn't use banana sauce on savory things, but it might be ok on desserts...

Also! Congrats on 200 pages!

Back when ketchup first came out, in England, it was usually made from walnuts or mushrooms.

"Ketchup may have entered the English language from the Malay word kicap (pron. "kichap", also spelled kecap, ketjap). Originally meaning "fish sauce", the word itself derives the Chinese terms above. In Indonesian cuisine, which is similar to Malay, the term kecap refers to fermented savory sauces."

I guess what to learn from this is ...becareful when asking for "ketchup" in a non western country because you might not get what you were expecting.

Silly question: Is fish sauce to be put on fish or is it made of fish? Perhaps both?? :/

probably both? In ancient Roman days didn't they have some disgustingly fermented fish sauce that they used?

Monkeygirl, can you take the class at the local college and still get the credit? Do you need a particular English class or are there ones to choose from to get credit towards a degree?
