Your question sent me off on a researching adventure, because I'm very bad at putting my instincts into words.
Women are generally a lot more expressive, a lot faster to apologize, and from I've noticed, write much longer "sentences". There are a couple articles that call the speech patterns of women vs those of men "dueting vs. dueling", in that women are more likely to be supportive of each other in what they say, more comforting, and more...overlapping, if you get what I mean. On the other hand, men are more likely to (maybe subconsciously) try to one-up each other, and speak in much shorter sentences and phrases.
Yes, this is makes broad, broad generalizations. Yes, there are going to be quite a few people who do not fit what I just said. But
generally speaking, this tends to be the case.
(For example, in conversational speech, my tone is usually decidedly more masculine. However, when I'm trying to explain things, I become more long-winded, as seen above.)
