yes, from the attic - mice can climb up walls you know...or worse could be a rat! I was told if you see dark stains on the ceilings of restaurants it is often from rodent pee...

but you know I am just making up stories about your hole in the ceiling :grin_wink:

(but the rodents in the ceiling is true and they can eat holes in the ceiling), just probably not yours
