I would hope technology is getting better at predicting eruptions. They should have helicopters for evacuations ... can a boat outrun an ash plume?

Depends, boat may outrun the heavy lava, but if the volcano be spitting rocks and stuff then it's pretty dangerous too to be hit from above

now speaking of volcanoes..I remembered the movie POMPEI? they were trying to escape that volcano eruption.. and earth quake from that caused tsunami too so escaping was nearly impossible.....It was so Hellish..too cruel scene but real I could imagine the terrible event.
