It's good to think in terms of the future! However if the present conditions are causing you problems, part of the process of being self sufficient is fixing the stuff that you can that will reduce your problems. Figuring out where the bugs are getting in from is the hardest part. Sealing is the easiest in my experience.
I was thinking about your door. You can get one of those magnetic closure screen doors for that. If it keeps out mosquitoes and flies, it should work on stink bugs. Best of all, they're really simple to install--just a few screws you can screw in with a screwdriver. WalMart sells this one:
I think you could get everything you need for about $15 or less. Discuss it with your dad. Tell him what you're thinking about doing. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't object if you paid for the materials and did the work. You would be fixing his house after all. It's not like you're being selfish or unreasonable.
He's been trying to fix the place up. If it were as simple as that, it would have been done. It's not just the walls, it's the floors. Our living room ceiling has a hole in it. The whole house is in disrepair and I wish my parents were able to move.
Sometimes you just have to make things happen yourself or it never gets done. Wood putty (the stuff that costs more per ounce compared to spackle) will seal cracks in wood floors. You couldn't tackle the whole house yourself, but I'm sure you could improve conditions in your room. Small steps, one at a time is how progress is made!
OK. Well, if you ever want to try it, let us know. I watch all of the home improvement shows and have done quite a bit in our home. It's not rocket science and stuff like this is actually really simple (even more so if you're not overly concerned on how it looks--that's the part that takes time and skill=craftsmansip). You could fill cracks and holes with almost anything from rags to tissues. Anything to stop those buggers from getting in!
