we were talking about bad drivers....usually why our power goes out is because some one hits a power pole and a transformer goes down.

Ok, the first batch of survival you mentioned, I knew about ,but the snow for flushing the toilet is brilliant!!

Lucky you! My brother had power out for a week in freezing temperatures, a few years back, on the East coast.

I think it actually was the whole East coast of Canada and the northern half of the US...similar to the bad storm they are having this week end.
