Thank you!! Here's to hoping I don't bomb them :'D

Alright, so to keep in-line with the Thread's title... Did anyone see Jupiter at its greatest opposition on April 7th? On the night of April 7th, Jupiter, the Earth, and the Sun formed a straight line, allowing Jupiter to make its closest approach to Earth in 2017 AND out-shined all the stars that night!

With my telescope and 2 different lenses, I was able to get a glimpse of Jupiter and 4 of its moons. There was a point where I thought I was hallucinating a bit because I thought I saw Jupiter's stripes, but nahh! My eyes did not deceive me!!

{remind me to post some pictures I took later of Jupiter & its moons -- the pictures and my phone camera did not do the actual sight any justice whatsoever though D:}

I tried taking pictures of Jupiter last night but my hands were too shaky ( well, it was cold outside...) I may try tonight with the tripod. With the binoculars I could see 2 of the moons as pin points of light around Jupiter. With my zoom lens I could see the round ball of Jupiter.

To me Jupiter looked blue with green and it looked like darker Horizontal lines - is that what you saw?

I'd love to see your photos!

Ok, I decided to do some research: with the binoculars I could See Io and I think Ganymede- too big for Europa I think (maybe if I wore my glasses i could see more?) And Jupiter was basically like the image (that I found on the web) below but more blue/green for me.

I saw some hints of red on Jupiter's stripes, but yeah for the most part it was blue-ish green-ish. I'll remind myself to edit this post later when I upload the pictures I took, but they unfortunately couldn't capture Jupiter's stripes D:

dragoness - I hope you are feeling better! Were you dehydrated? Tired?

mdom - don't think I will get anything better then the photo above but it is so cool to be able to actually SEE the planets when they get close to the Earth!

mdom - are you talking about a telescope in real life or a telescope on Windlyn?

Oh! Now that you mention it, there is the Lyrids Meteor Shower coming up next weekend!
It's just your average meteor shower, but will nonetheless still be fun to watch! I think it should be peaking on the night of April 22nd and into the early morning of April 23d

There was a meteor or space debris (haven't heard a confirmation on which yet) that lit up the sky on Monday night here on the west coast - I didn't get to see it in real life though!

The moon has been illuminating the night quite brightly this week.

I think the full moon was just yesterday, which means the new moon should be coming in 2 weeks? Don't trust me on my math skills though ahaha

What was the meteor/space debris like?

I only saw it on the news - looked like a streak then 2 consecutive explosions of light with some green and orange color.
