Yeah, I agree... But... Well, sometimes some people (myself included), don't know how to say no to a child. Sometimes they don't want to be too strict and upset the children. That's why I stopped working as a camp counsellor. I guess it depends on personality and experience.

I hate it when a panic attack causes you to get fired... ><

You must have left McD's on good terms for them to hire you back where you were.

I've said it before, McD's is a good company. If you can figure out how to move up, you could be paid well and make a career out of it.

Is it? I thought it was for school dropouts? Stereotypically, at least.

Well, for most places "flipping burgers" is a low-paying, go-nowhere job. But McDonald's is a mega corporation (they used to have most restaurants than any other company in the world--and probably still do) and one of the reasons why it works so well it's an old school kind of company that understands that good employees are critical for their success. So although they hire summer job types, they don't want that for management because they know that'll hurt them. So they make paths for careers in order to retain people.

I know a local guy here that started at the bottom flipping burgers (actually he's done every job at a store) and now he owns 3 McDonald's franchises. Yes, he makes big $$$. So it can be done. I think if you see other companies that work like this today it's because they copied McDonald's.

My gm worked there since she was 16 and it has led her to where she is now. If you can work your way up to manager, you're pretty well off with your pay.

So, Build-A-Bear had this pay your age deal today and it obviously ended up failing and it was so obvious and predictable. I have a friend who works there at the Build-A-Bear and she had to work string that whole chaos. And just listening to her explain the entire day, she was explaining how the line wrapped around pretty much the entire Mall. And parents would be standing in line for 10 hours with their children, no other adult with them just one adult and their children, no food no bathroom break just staying in line for 10 hours. Whoever thought that this deal was a good idea should be slapped. Good thing Build-A-Bear learn from that and stopped it. They had the police and Mall security tell them that they needed to cut the line because it was so long that it was a safety concern. They eventually had to close the store because it was that bad. And this is not just talking about this one Build-A-Bear it was all over the country and possibly even other countries that this was happening in. I would have a panic attack at the beginning of the day and not be able to work the rest of the day because of it. I don't know how my friend did it but I'm surprised she did. Just, this is the worst idea anyone could have ever come up with.

They should have had a cut off line and/ or scheduled people and once the schedule was full then let people know they could be on the waiting list or check back. That is ridiculous. Bad management decision.
