The first steps are the hardest. A driver's license will add the potential for so much more freedom and opportunities and independence. You will be glad you did once you have it.

A job brings money and money brings alternatives.

Doesn't hurt to have your own bank account and pay bills yourself and start building up a good credit rating.

Unless I carpool or have someone take me to and from, I can't go anywhere without a license
And i think it takes the better part of a month just to get the damn thing

I have a bank account, technically two, just need to get a card for the one again and shut the other down so mom can't go raiding, as she has on occasion before
Even tho it was supposed to be for our planned trip that will never happen at this rate
FML

I'm really hoping that dad will help, and not get pissed like mom
Cuz having both call me a disappointment is gonna really fucking hurt

one step at a time Kit. you know they are just frustrated because they don't know how to let their little nestling leave the nest and worried how you will manage if something happens to them. What steps can you make to keep moving forward? It sounds like you have thought some stuff out. Maybe try a temp place like Bassy did to get a job?

No, mom is pissed because what i want to do is not what she approves of
Dad gets it, at least. He might be disappointed, it if he doesn't flip his shit, he'll prolly help as much as he can

I was thinking of a temp place. If it requires internet use, that's fine by me, unless I end up without internet for a bit
Even if I just read books and look for spelling errors and ask questions and stuff for pay to cover the basics, that's fine

Prolly gonna flip the weekly transfer around, since I have ine set up so that $10/week goes to the one joint with mom
Keep it the same, just from joint with mom to technically joint with dad (I was sixteen or so when I got it, so having an adult joint on it was required and he doesn't look at it anyway)

Might be a good idea to get all my clothes washed and start packing what I can
-sigh-

Mom blames me for the one job I briefly had not panning out, but it was one that relied on communication that was shitty at best, forcing me to guess, which didn't work so I got hit worst by it, and that location is closing so I would've lost it anyway...

Best case scenario someone discovers me and pays a shitton for a drawing that they'd likely get elsewhere for better quality

starving artists really don't have to starve...they can work at a less fulfilling job and do their art on the side. I have a customer who is finally getting known and paid for her artwork - so it can happen- but she has had to do "other work" to provide for herself and her growing family over the years. If you look at the "other" types of work as a means to provide for your being able to do the work you love then it isn't too bad. And as you go, keep your eyes open for what you really want to do and actively pursue that as well, in the meantime we all need to eat!

And now I have to provide proof of applying or 20+ jobs and for the license or I lose a week
She's overreacting way too much and she's not helping at all
Still haven't talked to dad

I was on my own before my 16th birthday. (My parents gave me $18 a week for school lunch.) It wasn't a shock nor a rude awakening for me as I knew I would be on my own one day (as most adults are and I was pretty much on my own since I was 13 or so). You can make it work and there's little to be gained by being mad or playing the victim in the long run. I found that you can use your anger and/or sadness and/or fear as motivation to get what needs to be done with gusto. You are far luckier than many to have parents that care about you more than mine did. I don't think your mom hates you or anything like that. It sounds like she feels that you need to be moving faster on getting on the adult track.

Looking back at that time of transition, I wish I could have been able to get my life together even earlier and I could have not suffered through all of that angst of worrying about where I was going to sleep or if I'd be able to eat more than lunch. Being a self-reliant adult is the highest level of freedom you can get and the most enjoyable stage of life so far. The sooner you get there, the happier you'll be.

As for following your dreams? In my experience, and anyone who knows me will tell you that I'm the poster child for people who have followed their dreams, being on your own, you control of your own life and that frees you to follow your dreams . You control, if, how, and when you do stuff. When you're dependant on your parents or whoever, that's what limits you. Sure, they *can* help you follow your dreams, but they're free not too help too or even hinder you when you're dependent on them. Best of luck to you! You can do it!!

Is there anything stopping you from applying for jobs or a driver's license?

"this site is super easy to navigate!"
Me: where the fuck is what I need what the hell

I live out on the countryside. All jobs are gonna need a car
No license
No car
So no job

That summer one was really close, hence why I had it

There's an order to it: License first. Anything preventing you from getting your license?

Job applications can be done at any time, so just apply. If you're not driving yet, that doesn't stop you from applying does it? I mean, unless you don't plan on getting your license. You probably know it's much harder to get any of these things if you're homeless. Thankfully I had a license (15.5 years old) and a car soon after. I worked a couple of jobs and saved to get a car, and that allowed me to get a better job. It all starts with a drivers license and any job. ABC (Any job, Better job, Career).

I don't know about your state but you can make an appointment at the DMV to take the written and then to take the driving portion of your test. Even if you should fail (which I don't think you will)at least you will have an idea of what they are asking. See if your state offers practice exams.

If you can find a place to live in town at (family/friends) you could get access to work that way.

Is where your Mom or Dad work looking to hire so you can get rides to work from them?

I didn't sign up for the written part oops
But there's nothing about a written test in the DMV

Everyone's either within half a mile or even more backwoods, so...

Mom is a teacher for I CANNOT SPELL THE FUCKING WORD BUT HIGH SCHOOL AGE delinquents
And dad's a lumper
I can't do either

check what your State's DMV requires - do you already have a beginners/learners license? (That is generally the written you take). If you do then you are half way done!
