I don’t know about all fish, but ours are always hungry. I’ve seen very obese koi because they couldn’t seem to remember eating and customers kept feeding them for entertainment.

We put a water lily in our pond one summer, and our koi ate it. Then they dug up the bulb AND ATE IT TOO.

After that, we tried putting a plastic water lily in the pond to provide some shade. Spoiler alert: the koi tried to eat it.

They’re pretty but dumb.

We had a neighbor with koi. They'd come over and welcome us when we'd walk by! They were like puppies! Water puppies!! :)

Oh, these koi will eat out of your hand! Maybe that's the trick to train them?

Just so long as they don't try to eat your hand!

I experimented with Koi in a pond one time. I would walk back and forth a long the side and they would follow me!

These just nibbled. I assume they have teeth, but was told they don't bite and they didn't.

Yes, they're big and fat!

They come up and poke the tops of their heads slightly above the surface and swim around by you like puppies glad to see you. I thought they might be special, but also thought that may just be how they are and that's why people go through so much trouble to have them. Wasn't really sure.
