Speaking of my sister, she used to take me and my one irl friend that i rarely talk to (rarely, yes, but when we do, it's like no time has passed) to NYC every year to see Macy's Thanksgiving Parade
The last time we went, my friend and I, plus the kids of my sister's friend we were staying with, were all complaining of the cold. Cold and windy, and despite many layers, still cut through
So my sister threw a hissy fit after that one at me and just me, "and don't think I'll forget this when you go begging me to see it live next year!"
Not only did I not beg the following year, I didn't beg any other year since

Your birthdays are really a day to give thanks for you then! At least everyone is in a good mood for your birthdays too.

I've seen a couple parades when I was small but never a huge one, other then on t.v.. I'm not one for crowds so not sure how I would like being there, can you even see anything when there are so many people?

The parade spans many many many blocks
Times Square is not an example of the rest of the parade
And you get there hours early and try not to freezr to death and hope you're in a good spot and don't get moved
But people up front sit. Young kids with an adult to watch tend to have priority
People brig blankets and will let others join them. Yes, complete strangers
Adults and tall people that arrive later stand in back, but with enough space for others to move through, and kids go on shoulders, or sit up front with someone else where their parents/guardians can see

I think the closest I ever was to Times Square was about three blocks away, but we tend to go further away, cuz we get to see it all that much sooner and are done that much sooner
And all those people in the Square? There's some sort of special contest or other they are required to win or some such
And there's blocked off bleachers for Macy's employees and those with them who get special tickets
And a lot of the route is through residences, hotels, etc, so a lot watch from up high

My past birthday was super exciting. I was 26 on the 26th, which was on Thanksgiving! ^_^
