All of our "after" Thanksgiving shopping seems to want to happen at 6pm here on Thanksgiving day itself >_<.

I went shopping for the rest of the groceries today for Thanksgiving day dinner - crazy out there. I almost saw a half ton truck slam into a car. People forget they can not stop quickly! Yikes!!

Dragoness: I forgot about 6 pm shopping...guess I could go then...if I really wanted to that desperately...but a lot of the good sales are online too.

I am sad that my check was so low for these past two weeks. It will be going towards rent. My husband says we still have money to get some things if I want, but eh. I'll just forget about it. No birthday shopping for me.

You're good Maro!

Dragoness: been in that position quite often...I have learned to be very frugal ...but have also found there really isn't much I need so my "gifts" can always wait for a sale. Thankfully I have friends that treat me to breakfast or lunch for my birthday and generally give me cosmetics or something else I like to use - like a starbucks or food gift card. Our family tradition is to buy the Christmas gifts for ourselves after Christmas, when everything is on sale. We take the money Parents/Grandparents etc have given and wait until it comes on sale at a good price. So normally all we open are our stocking stuffer presents.

I was wanting to get some things with the Black Friday sales. The prices are always really amazing. It just makes me kinda depressed. We look around and find things for sale for Christmas gifts. We got a PS3 and TV from a pawn shop for my girls. I keep telling my husband I don't "want" anything since we have been loosing so much every time we move, it just makes me not want to get anything or only keep things that I can collect on the Internet. It's probably one of the reasons I try for everything on avie and pet sites.

Probably one of the reasons I love being able to give gifts on this site! Doesn't cost me anything but my time!

But you know, you can't knock Goodwill and thrift stores - there are some great finds (even stuff with tags still on). And if you need to, the Post Office, places in the community or local churches do a Santa program where they try to fulfill an item on the kids wish list. But sometimes you can have someone that is upgrading to a new system donate their old one to you. As adults we are ok with not getting gifts but it is a different story with kids.

Yeah, I have a list with the places around here that help with gifting. I do love to go to Goodwill. This past summer I got some cute dresses for myself and some cute clothes for the girls. Yep, my girls had a super long list, but they do know they will not be getting everything. They told me their top most wishes, but they keep changing their minds. lol.

Dragoness:

[+] SPOILER
We never did Santa in our family, even though my cousins did - we weren't allowed to say anything to them but it was always awkward when they asked what Santa brought us and we said he brought us nothing, because then you really sound like you were on the naughty list!So we got some teasing until we figured out just to say what we had gotten (normally underwear and clothes). The years after my dad died, and before my Mom remarried were very tight for us and one year we went to a pre Christmas community event that gave presents out. I got a basket weaving kit (even though what I desperately wanted seemed to go to every one around me) and I ended up making Christmas gifts out of it, so it worked out. It was quite the life lesson. When I was 9 my Grandma taught me to crochet so I would make potholders and blankets for gifts usually using wool that I unwound from something or that was donated to me

Ah. We have already told our girls about people being real or not. They still like to believe though and write lists. It is just fun for them to do and there is no harm with it. ^_^

Come to think of it, we were told that Santa Claus was based on a real person, St. Nicholas, who would give out gifts to the children in the village. Later on I met dutch people who celebrated SinterKlaaus day - which I thought was Dec 5th but I think Akuyi pointed out is actually Dec 6th.

But the intent of Santa Claus is about giving and doing good to others and so during the season I like to say I'm one of his elves...

In a way, he kinda is real still. Even being based on a real person, his ideals stay around.
You are super giving, especially on here! ^_^

Hello Fiel. Thank you! I hope you did too!
