I've updated my shop. I offer one item for free for new users.

It's looking like everyone was able to get a solar eclipse background. I picked up a few extras for prizes later on.

I was wondering about who wasn't able to get one. I know there are some that haven't been around much that I don't believe were able to be around for it.

I'm getting smarter and trying to pick up extras in time.

I had been mostly focused on just getting the items for myself but I'm trying to be active enough so I can get extras too when possible.

my dilemma is which items to buy the most of - which ones will new members be wanting the most.

But I like Kit/Lianna's grab bag idea for items.

Yeah, I just looked at her yard sale shop.
It's a great idea although for new users I wonder if offering a grab bag that costs fewer feathers while not as many items, would be good too.

it doesn't take long to build up the feathers if you post and play games and some items become rare

Right but 250 feathers sounded like a lot when I first joined. Getting items for only 5 or 10 feathers in the shops is cheap but 250 all at once seems a lot by comparison.

for someone just joining I can see that... but many more ways to earn feathers now I think.

There are, I was thinking about first impressions and bridging the gap.

I don't know what the happy medium is - other then the diamond shop, everything is free (no real money involved) and we can earn the currency so quickly but once people have bought everything in the shop they want more so either new items have to come out or people have to sell their past items and if past items never come back then they could be very rare so really should be priced accordingly... and what is the incentive to encourage people to post other then to try to earn feathers?

When it comes down to it they will have to post to get anything from other users. There are some avatar forums that require you to buy a trading pass first. That's not required here so that's a leg up over other places.
