Yeah, she figured that it would either brighten up my room or clash horribly, and she was willing to take the risk

Nice, it's pretty.
Too bad about the mold though.
I didn't really want to live in a house with a basement because of flooding issues. When I lived in my s.o.'s family home we stayed in the finished basement. Didn't have any problems besides the time the snow was melting and the drain outside over flowed a bit. But it just caused the carpet in front of the basement exterior door to be damp.
Our house here has a tiny basement that's way too small and narrow to do much with. I hope we don't have problems with it.

The mold I don't worry about

If the basement were finished, it'd be a lot of help, even if half is used for wood storage

can you put storage shelves in the basement? Costco has some good priced shelves on wheels, saves a lot of space and they can be moved around if needed.

Try a dehumidifier for the air and that should help eliminate the moisture and hence the mold.

The dehumidifier down there it almost as big as the washer

But even the dehumidifier can only do so much when it rains and the drain starts backing up as a result

As for Costco, I'd have to be a member and cross the border for the nearest one

Shelving is no good cuz the floor is uneven as well. We'd have to make it, and that would require bracing it, and since it's those large grey blocks for the walls, no dice

well, the rolling shelves are online too..they might work if it is uneven, you could brace it with blocks. You have a huge dehumidifier!?! That must give you lots of water! Do you water your plants with it?

I have no idea what dad does with it
The basement is pretty much left alone, except for wood and laundry
