All that hype and it only lasted a short time.
I was talking to someone today who had gone through Oregon last week for vacation and their room was $154/night but the same room for the solar eclipse time was $600/night! She said they had signs up warning people there wouldn't be enough gas at the gas stations to meet the needs of all the influx of people ( the gas company would not allow an extra tanker to come in because of the roads being backed up) so they were telling people to be prepared.

I actually thought it was going to be shorter. I didn't get up until 2PM and thought I might have missed the total eclipse but it ended up being good timing.
I can see the rooms being more expensive but jeez that's a ton more. Wow that's crazy about the gas.

now I am more interested in watching the next LUNAR eclipse ( which we have more opportunity to see. The shapes are the same and you can view it with your eye for the whole event).

Lemon: I just watched NASA's coverage but I'm glad I was able to be around for that at least.

I'm interested in the lunar eclipse too.

I've seen some nice photos of it.

On January 20-21 2019 there will be a lunar eclipse over all of North and South America.

It was a half moon last night and so clear I could see craters with my binoculars!

That's really cool. I have a pair of National Wildlife binoculars, maybe I should put them in the mudroom so I can use them for viewing the night sky.

Binoculars are a great way to view the moon. I have never tried taking a zoom picture with my phone yet though so will have to try it. And does where you live on the earth matter to what you see on the moon or do we all see the same angle of the moon?

I've tried with an older phone but that one wasn't that great.
Hm, not really sure.

Everyone should see the same phase on the same day, but elevation in the sky will differ based on longitude. What I discovered is the biggest surprise is the moon's orientation (which way is "up") varies based on where you are on earth and the time you see/make note of the moon's orientation.
