Saw said sister at the Starbucks there. Said hi softly, then "we don't know each other I'm here for an interview"
She said okay and after I sat down at a different table she got up and wandered off into the store

Poor woman who interviewed me had other interviews today and had the wrong paperwork at first, but at least I had her laughing. So maybe I'll get hired?

If you got her laughing then that sounds positive! ...keepng fingers crossed...<and why would it be a bad thing for them to know your sister works there? If they like her I would think that would be a plus?>

Laws state family can't work in the same place

Like mom being in the main part of Michael's while said sister taught classes was okay cuz different areas
The lake swung it by either having us on different shifts, at different places, or both
BJ's can swing it by not having me overnight and/or working Monday
Seasonal at Target means overlap will be almost inevitable, and by not letting them know our siblingship, it's easier for scheduling purposes

It's a law. Just not sure how far up it goes
Like the lake could have me and mom on the same shift cuz the stores are either one or two people, and we'd never be in the same two person store unless one opened and the other closed, while same shift would be I'm Trading Company and she's Trends
Or she's TC and I'm Glow, which has had some times where'd I push into the store and give her a bathroom break, or she'd send me a text asking for help with the Ticketmaster machine, cuz Glow uses push carts
Or in my first year, she was merchandise and I was maintenance (a sweep, to be specific) so we were different departments entirely
BJ's and Target are harder to keep us separate cuz one building

As for why the law exists, probably drama. That or it's not "family owned and operated" so they can't. Idk

Soeakig of family owned and operated I've never seen one in person. On tv, yeah. Cooking channel, specifically, but not irl

we have a couple restaurants locally that are family owned and operated - and I mean the WHOLE family are involved including inlaws, which is kind of nice to support by eating there because you know it helps someone local and especially when they support the community too by donating for fundraisers etc.

I am glad your family has been able to work around the situation so that you have employment and can car pool sometimes.

I wonder if it's just a state law because I worked with a pair of sisters that were both servers and worked the same hours and the same restaurant and that wasn't family owned. There was some trouble with this one family that dominated one pizza shop that's part of the same franchise that my s.o. works at. It's poorly run by general manger and other family members there but the higher ups wont do anything about it. Too many people to fire and not enough experienced people to replace them I think.

Maybe it's different certain jobs or certain companies too.

It's usually policy in government and bigger companies (the fear of nepotism or being unable to manage due to personal relationships), but it has bled down to smaller businesses. However, it's very often not enforced even at the highest levels. In fact, it's usually worse up there!
