Ahh well! There's going to be another blue moon this year, which I think will be in March! (Two blue moons in 2018, wowow!)

As for meteor showers, the Lyrids and Eta Aquarids will be coming up in April and May respectively! As the saying goes, "April showers bring May flowers," but hopefully Mother Nature won't rain on our star parade this April!

How are things with everyone? How have the stars aligned in your lives??

I'll have to keep a look out for the meteor showers, but I never seem to get too lucky to see many at once.

Ahhh, the Lyrids and Eta Aquarids are pretty average meteor showers so there won't be much to look at. I think the rate will be around 10-30 meteor showers an hour? So yeah, not much sadly :c

However!! One of the best ones is coming up in August, the Perseids Meteor Shower! Try not to miss this one, because other wise you'll have to wait until December's Geminids Meteor Shower to see a grand show!

Re: Star Talk ☆ Let's Hang - R.I.P. Stephen Hawking

Postby Polaris » Wed Mar 14, 2018 12:45 pm

It's mostly clear over here in the UK, and rightly so! Seems like Stephen Hawking has parted the usual cloudy skies so that we could see the stars the way he saw them - in awe of its all natural beauty and glory.

Here are some of my favorite quotes by him, science and not science:

No one understands research in physics with the intention of winning a prize. It is the joy of discovering something no one knew before.

Science is beautiful when it makes simple explanations of phenomena or connections between different observations. Examples include the double helix in biology and the fundamental equations of physics.

I have lived with the prospect of an early death for the last 49 years. I'm not afraid of death, but I'm in no hurry to die. I have so much I want to do first.

They say that science's brightest star went out today.
Stephen Hawking, you will be missed.

I absolutely love the first quote, discovering new horizons is always exciting. Let's raise our glass to science and the people who revel in it.

It's amazing he lived so long having ALS most people only have a short live span once they are diagnosed.

His life was a living testament that you don't have to be in good health or be in the best shape to have a positive impact in the world. People in general will use their disabilities or inabilities as an excuse but he lost the ability to talk and yet managed to communicate. He didn't let his appearance keep him from public engagements or traveling or even get in his way of pursuing his goals.

Well, there's an exception to every statistic. His determination and curiosity was probably what kept him alive for so long. Had he just given up on life once he received the diagnosis all "where's the point in any further studies, I'll be dead in three years anyway", I don't think he would have made it that far. With each new challenge that presented itself, he always found ways to cope. Society could have been so quick to label him as a freak or mentally retarded, yet his persistence established him as a brilliant scientist.
