Giant asteroid flying past:
"The flyby is expected to occur on Wednesday, April 29, at 5:56 a.m. ET, according to NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object Studies. The center tracks Near-Earth Objects, or NEOs, that could collide with Earth."

Oh most definitely! But they may be a little harder to spot. The Lyrids Meteor Shower runs from April 16 to April 26 every year, and the peak is typically around April 22. However, just because you're not watching on the peak night doesn't mean you won't see something in the night sky on other days! The peak just means the night on which the rate of meteors per hour is at its highest.

For example, the rate of meteors per hour during the Perseids Meteor Shower can reach up to ~60 meteors per hour! No wonder why it's called the brightest meteor shower of the year! Geminids comes in second.

Oooh deffo try and star gaze if you can, but make sure to keep to your home if possible or practice social distancing measures! No point in stargazing if you're not taking the appropriate social distancing measures needed :/

Deffo gonna watch out for that giant asteroid though next wednesday! Might have to sleep early though if I wanna wake up on time and then head back to sleep. Got a seminar that day at 3pm GMT for uni, but luckily it's not too early for me who's across the pond xD

A meteor/asteroid was a prominent feature in Your Name, and I can't help but wonder if the meteor/asteroid seen in the movie is based off an actual meteor/asteroid

I'm not sure if it was based off of a real comet, but asteroids/meteor showers/comets have a big significance in fantasy, mythology, astrology, etc! The name of the comet in the movie, Tiamat, I think holds some significance though because it shares its name with the Babylonian goddess of primordial creation "Tiamat."

Comets are celestial bodies, which are defined as "natural bodies/objects located outside of the Earth's atmosphere." I think the definition of celestial body held both an astronomical and divine/mythical significance in Your Name (Kimi no Nawa), where the comet Tiamat is both a celestial body in the sense of an astronomical object but also in the sense of a mythical celestial being/something that held a mythical/supernatural power.

Interesting food for thought, thanks npixelz!

The sky is intense, I wish we could see with our naked eye all the stars/planets that are actually out there.
