Popping in quick to say that Gryphon's Nymph of the Nile Tea has me swooning.

Image

This is my first taste of baimudan tea, and though I have some idea of what to expect from white teas (tasted just ONE -- they get expensive fast -- surprisingly sweet and almost hay-like, very different from other teas), this was just completely different. I could not believe there was even tea in this. It's so sweet and fruity, similar to the scent of some combination of apple-pear-strawberry (and how much of that is the baimudan or the blend, I don't know). The rose is unlike any rose I've tasted in a tea blend -- and again, I don't know how much of that is from the specific rose used or a result of the particular combination. The tea almost reminds me of a perfume. There's supposedly basil here, but I'm not really detecting it in either scent or taste. If I focus, there's something akin to fresh basil in it, like how my hands would smell like after handling basil plants, but dried basil tastes a touch different from that.

The tea was part of a huge gift that included some books, a tarot deck, and even more tea. I'm putting together a package to reciprocate it, but it feels way too lacking compared to what I received ;___;

i have NEVER tried basil in tea ..., just in cooking food, I bet it adds a sweetness.

The name fits it well - it was very perfume-like. So much, in fact, that I'm pretty sure there is a perfume that smells very similar to what the tea tastes.
Truly! Gonna be on the look out for promos and the like for this xD

Oooh what kind of tea do you like most so far?
It's kinda unfair that the better teas tend to not show up on the grocery shelves ;__; Most teabags just contain leftover fannings and dust from the machines. It's inexpensive, efficient, and makes for a strong brew, but at the cost of less,,, variations? in flavor.

Best of luck with the search! It's from an SG company - shipping may get expensive if there isn't a local retailer.
I've tried brewing just dried basil as a tea. It was kinda minty, but in a very bitter way!! Couldn't finish the cup. Though apparently I haven't tried brewing fresh basil - it might be less harsh.

Perhaps chamomile and rose teas would be to your taste? Tho iirc rose rarely shows up in the groceries.

Ooo fruit-flavored teas or just fruity herbal teas? If they're just herbal teas, just feel free to use two teabags in one cup for more flavor! Or try out the same flavor sold by a different brand or company. They tend to build it differently IDK. Had a problem with Cole's earl grey black tea even though I normally love earl grey - something about their bergamot just doesn't play right with me. IIRC Twinning's and Stash's earl greys are great. Try Lady Grey or Stash's Double Bergamot too, if that one's still around @_@ Stash has disappeared from the supermarkets and I haven't seen it around.

I have the same problem with most hibiscus-based teas. It's tart, but it feels oddly watery at the same time.

Correct but not quite - it's dried and oxidized hot leaf juice
