There's a fan theory, one that holds up nicely, Mop stop farting wtf that says that it's not what people are, but their most valued traits that Sort them
Like Slytherins are seen as cunning. Malfoy tries, but isn't
Gryffindor, the brave and courageous. Neville, for the most part, only shows flashes until HBP, but he really shines off screen in DH
Ravenclaw, intelligence. Luna is intelligent, but she's often off in her own world, which some people see as not being that great. As seen by her being bullied, noted particularly in OotP
Hufflepuff, playing fair, and helping others. We see Cedric do that. Hell, the whole thing in GoF, particularly the whole egg song and the maze
I'm oversimplifying it a bit, tho

And ya gotta be at least a bit cunning to be a punmeister ovo

Slytherins are also ambitious, which is my defining trait. I strive for all the items on all the sites! ^_^

Every House can be boiled down to oversimplifications like that.
Just like everything else.
Yet, when you do that some people absolutely lose their minds.
I've seen it.
I'm a fan of "The Common Room" on facebook and holy geez...
Some people can be absolutely insane.

I keep my tabs saved so that when I close the browser down, they all open when I open my browser. Usually about 5 different sites.
I also start up Discord whenever I get online. ^_^

If my brain would allow it, it would help me, too.
But sadly I have to work on memory because I need cleanliness when I start. lol

Slughorn is a Slytherin
He prefers the backseat to the throne
More influence, more room to spread
He fits his House very well

Give me a bit, I got two alternate House Descriptions saved to my phone

I found a post on tumblr that explained how and why Slughorn was the EPITOME of Slytherin.
Let me try to find it because it was a great little post.

When I was younger, I did the paper quizzes and stuff because I was old school..

ANYWAY, I remember the very first time I took it and how I was just certain that I would be placed in Ravenclaw. I was so proud of how smart I was and I thought that meant that I was an absolute shoo-in for that house.
I took the quiz and Hufflepuff? HUFFLEPUFF? (keep in mind this was probably when only the first 3 books were out and I was around 9 years old.) I took it again with the knowledge that the path I first took would lead to Hufflepuff and managed to fix my answers to get me into Ravenclaw, but the truth has always been there. I was so concerned. XD

Fast Forward to Pottermore- I take the quiz and Hufflepuff. HUFFLEPUFF? Okay, I guess I had better accept it. It's fate. I read through the traits, looked back in the books about the house, and of course read through all sorts of pro-Hufflepuff propaganda. Haha!

Now I know that there is not another house that would fit me better. I am a Hufflepuff through and through.

Yeah, jilting the quizzes for what you want is normal, I've noticed
But first round tends to be more accurate to what you are

So like I tend to be even between, really, all four. It's just that Ravenclaw and Gryffindor tend to be a bit higher, so they're chosen more

I have been able to fix every quiz to give me the results I want.
Even Pottermore.
My first Pottermore account, I wanted Slytherin so I answered in appropriate ways and was given... Slytherin.
Then I stopped fucking around, answered a few honestly and got Ravenclaw.
Which made me realize "hey stupid, if you can fix all these quizzes, was it ever a question which house you were meant for?" lol

Anyway!
That Slughorn this is this...
"I think the most Slytheriny Slytherin there ever was was Slughorn. He was so freaking ambitious, but he wasn’t a particularly great wizard himself. So he cultivated a little following of great wizards to do all the work for him. He was never evil or mean or cruel like a dark wizard though. He got all this sway in powerful places because he was nice to, encouraged, and manipulated powerful wizards when they were young. And then he literally never had to do anything for the rest of his life. All these great wizards just gave him free stuff and listened to his opinions on politics and business because he had been their mentor. If anyone was being a Slytherin the right way, it was this guy."
