If it's a common vehicle the local autoparts place should have them. Changing them can be pretty simple and done with hand tools. A handy guy can be handy! And he'll save a ton of money doing it himself. The worst part would be having to do it outside in cold or bad weather.

Apparently his car has a chance of being made in Canada, which means it may have a different type than if it had been made in the States
He think it means the measuring system

Canada's metric system is different then the US. Maybe he can order from Canada if he can't find it in the junk yards.

The US uses imperial because pirates kidnapped the ship bringing the metric stuff over and by the time said ship was released the presidency had changed hands and the new one wasn't interested

Also the imperial system, for the small stuff, is easier for an everyday commoner who likely isn't literate than metric's sets of ten. Still gets whackadoodle on the big stuff, but commoners of the 1300s, for example, didn't need to know that kind of stuff
