I was looking into it (I also learned about the calendar because it has to do with dates and such, it was pretty interesting learning about the origin of the calendar as well.)
One idea on the origins: April 1st, according to the Julian Calendar, was originally set as the beginning of the new year. When we switched over to the Gregorian Calendar, it was changed to January 1st and those who were either slow to the news or refused to use the new system would continue celebrating new years on April 1st, which made them a joke to the other people.
Another idea on the origins: It was linked back to festivals like Hilaria (which is Latin for joyful) where people would dress in disguises and mock people.
Yet another idea: Thought it was maybe tied to the vernal equinox or the first day of spring as Mother Nature tricked people with unpredictable and changing weather.
In the 18th century in Britain, April Fool's Day started to spread which sent people on phony errands followed by a day called Tailie Day where people would pin fake tails and kick me signs on people.
At the end, there is not one certain origin, it's pretty much a mystery, but it's been celebrated for centuries.
